1. Turn off the TV. Take a break
from news and mindless distractions. Try it for one week. (If you don’t think you can go “cold turkey,”
start by pre-selecting one hour of programming per day to watch and stick to that schedule. No channel surfing!) You will
likely discover after one week that you have not really missed out on anything and that you have more time and energy. Keep
it going!
2. Take a walk. Find time each day to take a walk.
Whether you can spare five minutes or five hours, it doesn’t matter. Just remember to use this time for walking and
not reviewing your day or thinking about what needs to get done tomorrow. Feel your limbs moving, feel the earth beneath you,
feel glad to be alive!
3. Listen. Listen with attention to those around
you. Hear deeply what is being said without trying to correct or analyze or project any agenda. Try to keep your thoughts
from straying to what you think are more pressing concerns. Our most important job is learning to be alive to the present
moment!
